The Maxi Dress has been around longer than you would think. The first one was thought to be designed by Oscar de la Renta in the late sixties for Elizabeth Arden. People had grown tired of the mini, so hemlines dropped. The Maxi Dress length found its fashion feet (quite literally) during the seventies, when hippies fell in love with the Maxi. The Maxi lost popularity in the eighties, when power dressing took over and it didn’t reappear until the Boho trend at the beginning of the noughties, with the help of actress Sienna Miller. However the Maxi Dress faded into obscurity again but it has reappeared every summer since 2007.

Summer is the time for dinner dances, balls, proms and weddings. You may be confused as to what dress to wear to a black tie event. The phrase ‘Black Tie’ stems from the man’s attire of a black tie and dinner jacket, so it just means formal evening dress, which is worn after 6pm. It originates from the 19th century and the ladies were expected to wear a dress that complimented the man’s dress code. In bygone eras this would mean ankle length for dinner and below mid-calf for tea, now this means a ball gown or a cocktail dress. The only rules are, not too short or tight and if you are attending a black tie wedding, then steer clear of an ivory or white dress.
At Pepperberry, we can find the perfect dress for your black tie event. We have elegant dresses for every grand occasion.
For a glamorous classic, the Fleur Dress will be perfect for black tie parties or balls.
It’s available in a sophisticated navy floral organza. It is a perfect length for a black tie and the neckline is modest, rather than revealing. The shape is extremely flattering, as it skims over the tummy. It’s also great if you want to create the illusion of curves. It’s a gorgeous dress and we think it will be love at first wear!
Is the Kate Prom Dress the perfect prom dress? We think so! The shape teamed with the pretty hand drawn floral print, makes it the right choice for black tie events. The pleats mean it’s flattering for your tummy and the sweetheart neckline is alluring but not revealing. This is a versatile dress, as it can be worn with navy, coral, light blue, teal or cream. It can be easily dressed down too.
If you are an hourglass shape, you may want something that shows off your curves, but oozes sophistication, try the Shell Bead Shift Dress, it could be the dress for you. This dress is a classic, which you will return to again and again as it suits most events. Wear with a navy tuxedo jacket and navy stilettos or wear with an ivory taffeta jacket and ivory heels.
The Jasmine Bandeau Dress is a stunning dress for a ‘black tie’. The floral jacquard gives this dress a 1950’s look, it could almost pass for high-end vintage. The paprika colour makes a statement and is great for summer, but also works for winter; this could even be your ‘little red dress’ for the festive season. Wear with nude or metallic accessories for summer, or wear with black or navy accessories for winter. Looks great with the Beaded Clutch and the Multi Pearl Necklace.
So ladies, you do not need to spend a fortune to look and feel fabulous at your black tie event. We hope you have found the dress for you.

Wearing colour has the ability to lift confidence and make your skin glow. Summer is the perfect time to experiment with colour, so if you are more used to wearing dark colours or neutrals, why not give it a go? Finding the perfect colours for your skin tone is not an exact science, there are some tips to help you, but these shouldn’t be stuck to rigidly.
There are three main undertones to skin; cool, neutral and warm.
• If you are pale with a bluish tone to your skin, the veins on the inside of your wrist look blue/purple and you don’t tan, you are a cool skin tone
• If you are pale with a yellow tone to your skin, your veins look blue/green and you tan gradually but not easily, you are neutral
• If you have olive to dark skin and your veins look green and you tan easily, then you have a warm skin tone
•If you look good in jewel-like tones like blue, jade and purple, you are cool
• If you look good in yellow, orange, brown and olive, you are warm
• If you are neutral, you will suit colours from both groups
When you buy a new item of clothing, hold the colour up to your make-up free face, in natural light, then ask yourself:
• Do my eyes shine?
• Do my dark circles look reduced?
• Does my skin look perky, not sallow?
If it the answer is ‘Yes’ then that’s the colour for you. Remember the right colour will bring colour to your face, not take it away.
So dive in to our Pepperberry palette this summer and see what colour can do for you.
The Alexa Sun Top in coral will look good on most skin tones, but is best on cool and warm skin tones. Looks amazing with a tan and works with all hair colours.

Holiday season is nearly here. We all look forward to getting away, but whether you are island hopping in Greece, off to the Italian Riviera, or staycationing, summer holiday packing can be a headache.
The ideal holiday suitcase should be small, containing a few clothes and accessories that are interchangeable, to create some stylish day looks, beach looks and evening-out looks.
Follow our Pepperberry quick guide below for 6 essential tips to remember when creating a summer holiday capsule wardrobe.
- Don’t scrimp on swimwear-take a few different bikinis or swimsuits, it saves you worrying about rinsing out and drying.
- Hats off-take a hat that will fold, but will stay in shape when you unpack. If you have a straw hat, then wear it whilst travelling.
- Cover up-take a Boho style cover-up, they’re great for the beach, but can double up for the evening.
- Shoes sense-don’t overdo the shoes, one flat sandal or wedge for day trips and going out and Flip Flops for the beach. A metallic sandal is a great idea for evenings.
- Don’t throw in the towel-If there is a restriction on weight, think about buying or hiring a beach towel when you are there.
- Cardi or Kag-if you are holidaying in this country, take a stylish waterproof jacket or a light knit cardi if abroad.
We have also selected 15 capsule wardrobe essentials that you cannot be without this holiday season. See them below!
