A guide to the office holiday party

Believe it or not the holidays are just around the corner. This means gift giving, seasonal treats and figuring out what the heck you are going to wear to the office holiday party. That last one, though it should be fun, is actually a bit stressful. You are supposed to be more relaxed and laid back at your company party but at the same time you need to remain composed and stylish.

A great brand that can help you do that is Pepperberry. Pepperberry is the sister to the British lingerie brand Bravissimo. It provides stylish and sophisticated choices for professional women. They have some great choices for the holiday office party like the Tutu Skirt Dress, the Hepburn Dress (when in doubt, dress like Audrey), the Taffeta Full Skirt Dress and the Embellished Maxi Dress.

But if you still have questions about what is and isn’t appropriate for the office holiday party, here is a guide.

1. Never go for too sexy

Amanda Sanders of NewYorkImageConsultant says the main mistake women make at company holiday parties is dressing too sexy. “People really lose sight of the fact … that this is still a business event,” she says. This means that you need to put the girls away. Save that for New Year’s Eve with your friends. Also avoid super short hemlines, ‘killer heels’ and too much sparkles.

2. Avoid sheer

Sheer is in an in look right now, but be very careful for rocking this at the holiday office party.

3. Don’t wear outfits that promote a particular holiday

You may celebrate Christmas, but not everyone else does. “Merry Christmas might seem innocent enough on a sweater, but it’s Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, post-Diwali, or potentially no holiday at all for other people in the office,” Aravinda Rao Souza, senior marketing manager at recruitment software company Bullhorn, told Fox News. “Going too crazy with the holiday theme is also just a little tacky. Dress like you are attending a charity event where there would be both children and adults present.”

4. Embrace the accessories

The best place to experiment with fashion in the workplace is with your accessories. The office holiday party is probably not the place for a sequined mini-skirt, but a sequined handbag like this beaded clutch from Pepperberry is perfect.

5. Stay away from crazy prints

Don’t go too crazy with the prints. Not everyone is as trendy as you and a student of fashion blogs so they may not get your plaid on plaid ensemble.

6. Don’t be too fancy or casual

A major mistake newbies often make is either over or under dressing. You do not want to show up in a ball gown or jeans. But do ask around to see what the dress code is.

7. Network

110414_1206_Aguidetothe4.jpg

Use this holiday party opportunity to network (especially if you have on a fabulous outfit!) Mingle! Don’t just park yourself next to the food table or spend the whole night drinking in a corner and looking at your phone. Career expert Nicole Williams has a great list of networking ice breakers to get the conversation started. If you know who is going to be at the party, do some research so you can ask questions that relate to them like about what school they went to or their latest project.

8. Keep it simple

If you are going straight from the office to the party try a simple black dress for the work day or maybe a shift and then put on some sparkly shoes or a really bold necklace like this one from Pepperberry.

Must have Monochrome!

Last night’s Glamour Awards show that monochrome chic successfully stands the test of time and really is this summers ‘must have’ look. If you’ve not yet introduced this black and white combination to your wardrobe our new collection has plenty of stylish pieces for you to choose from that will see you through this season and beyond.

We know that not being able to find contemporary outfits to fit and flatter your boobs is a real frustration; you either have to size up or suffer the dreaded gaping buttons and pulling seams. At Pepperberry we have the solution – you can embrace the trend for monochrome with clothes designed with your boobs in mind – guaranteed to make you look and feel fabulous!

We spotted lots of celebrities sporting black and white outfits on the Glamour Awards red carpet; irish TV presenter Amanda Byram led the way with her eye-catching monochrome top http://ow.ly/lJ8UH whilst Dr. Who star Jenna-Louise Coleman wore a checked calf-length dress http://ow.ly/lIY1k

If like us you don’t have any call for red carpet outfits, you’ll be pleased to hear we’ve translated this catwalk trend into wearable clothes to suit your lifestyle. Our new range features two of your favourite styles from previous seasons in updated black and white polka dots, take your pick from our Spot Dress and Chiffon Spot Shirt Dress. Whether you’re going for a meal at your favourite restaurant or dressing for work we’ve got it covered.

To make a statement in stripes like actress Hayden Panettiere who opted for a striking fit-and-flare dress and tailored blazer http://ow.ly/lIYl5 try our Monochrome Stripe Skirt Dress. For a more subtle take on monochrome, try our Floral Jacquard Dress in white with a contrasting black bow belt.

If like Chloe designer, Clare Waight Keller http://ow.ly/lJ8DY you want to wear trousers and a top instead of a dress, our Tie Waist Blouse and Wide Leg Linen Trousers could be the perfect outfit whatever the occasion – add heels for a dressier feel, or wear with flats for a smart-casual look.

Have you embraced all things monochrome? We’d love to hear from you – please leave us a comment.

Our Top Five Oscars Outfits

We’ve been admiring the beautiful dresses worn by the A-listers to this year’s Oscars. There were so many gorgeous gowns on show; this has to be our favourite red carpet event of the year.

It was difficult to choose just a few but we’ve managed to narrow it down to our top five.

Our overall winner has to be Salma Hayek who shows off her incredible curves in a figure hugging Alexander McQueen dress, worn with a gold box clutch and an on trend ‘up-do’.

Jennifer Hudson looked glamorous in a glittering navy dress by Roberto Cavalli which she paired with a matching Jimmy Choo clutch. We love her metallic nails and statement ring.

Charlize Theron looked simply stunning with cropped hair and a white Dior gown, she finished her outfit off perfectly with just the right amount of diamonds.

Naomi Watts sparkled in a futuristic silver sequin gown by Armani Prive worn with Jimmy Choo shoes.

George Clooney’s gorgeous girlfriend Stacie Kiebler wore a beaded Naeem Khan dress, accessorised with the silver fox himself.

Let us know what you think of their outfits and accessories, do you have a favourite from the night?

Best in Show at the British Academy Awards 2013

Bow Detail Cardigan in Red from the Vintage Americana trend.

Last night, the famous faces of the silver screen were in London for the BAFTAs. Despite the cold, rainy weather, there was no shortage of glamorous dresses on the red carpet.  Here, we have chosen our favourites from the night…

Continuing with the Monochrome trend we’ve seen a lot of recently were actresses Juno Temple and Hayley Atwell. Both opted for a classic and elegant occasionwear option. If you’d like to try a more subtle approach to Monochrome then why not try our Piping Detail Blouse.

We were happy to see that in contrast with the gloomy weather there were lots of ‘pops of colour’ akin to the Vintage Americana trend in our spring collection, with lots of reds and blues. Jessica Chastain was simply stunning in her blue Roland Mouret gown and Laura Bailey kept it simple in her red Roksanda Illinic gown.

Marion Cotillard  stood out on the night in her in Dior Couture yellow gown. For a more wearable nod to the citrus colours of spring, why not try accessorizing your outfit with our Stitch Detail Shopper Bag in orange?

Jennifer Lawrence avoided the showers by draping a structured coat over her gown. For a spring cover up that works for you, shop coats to see the range available from Pepperberry.

You can see all the red carpet looks here. Let us know who was wearing your favourite gown from last nights event.
